Dr. Zulmy Mancia
Licensed Naturopathic Doctor
Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Mancia knew she wanted to be a doctor from the time she was a child. In college, she was exposed to various clinical settings through clinical research and volunteering as a medical translator. In these settings, she felt troubled by the care some patients were receiving. It seemed like they weren’t really listening. And instead of getting to the root cause of a problem, they were treating symptoms only.
Over time, Dr. Mancia became disillusioned with the idea of a career in allopathic medicine. This was particularly true as she reached adulthood. When she began to have some medical issues of her own, she had a sense the doctors weren’t really listening and also was unsatisfied with treatment suggestions given, which oftentimes seemed like a “band-aid” approach. As a child she had experienced both allopathic and naturopathic treatment whenever she got sick, so it was even more difficult for her to understand that the type of care she received was not the norm. Dr. Mancia wanted to provide a different form of care for patients, so she started to look into other careers in the medical field. When Dr. Mancia found naturopathic medicine, something clicked and her passion for medicine was reignited. Naturopathic doctors seek to treat the whole person, not just their symptoms. They recognize the power of nature in healing. Dr.Mancia felt that this was the path she was always meant to follow. In her practice today, she works to help her patients feel heard and understood. She looks for root causes and creates unique treatment plans to meet her patients’ individual needs.
As a first-generation American, she feels inspired to work with immigrants and other underserved groups. In her spare time, she loves to travel – especially to El Salvador – hike, and try new restaurants. She spends her free time with her family, friends, and her dog, Mickey.
